Does Islam allow me to give money to my mother despite her immoral activities?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
My mother and father divorced a year ago because of my mother’s illicit relationship with another man. I myself am a witness to her un-Islamic activities and so are my brothers and sisters. My brothers and sisters are however very young (the youngest is just 9) and the constant fighting between my parents prior to the divorce was having a very bad impact on them psychologically. My father waited for me to start earning and then divorced her. I myself was in favour of the divorce because of the impact of the constant fighting on my siblings. My mother did not have any means to support herself and I therefore had to rent a place for her in Karachi, Pakistan. I send her money every month so she can pay her bills, pay rent, buy food etc. However, her refusal to stop her immoral relationship with the man really troubles me and I wonder whether Allah will punish me for giving such a person any money, but then she is my mother. Please tell me what Islam says about this?

Answer

(Fatwa: 1735/1210/L=1432)

It is better to behave one’s mother in good way though she is too sinful. However you should make every possible effort that the unlawful relation of your mother with other man comes to an end. For the same, if you stop giving money to your mother for some months, then you can do so.
