Is it right or wrong to inform the government about housing fraud committed by Muslims?

Assalamu alaikum I understand that it is good to keep secret about the faults of other muslims.can you please giveme some defiation of the faults? the country i am living in is going through a housing crisis,people are living with upto 5 children in 2 bedroom flats while there are people who are commiting housing fraud,like some people are given housing by the government,and these people are secretly renting out the government property to other people,while they are living in luxury houses.if i was to tell them that they are doing wrong they will not listen.if i inform the government about it,is it wright or wrong. please give me some guidence. jazakallah.

Answer

(Fatwa: 762/710 =L -1429)

It is haram to reveal faults and bad habits of others before people. However, if a person does fraudulence, it is allowable to complain him to the government for preventing him form his fraudulence.

و فی الشامی: وإذا كان الرجل يصوم و يصلي ويضر الناس بيده ولسانه فذكره بما فيه ليس بغيبه حتى لو أخبره السلطان ليزجره لا إثم عليه (كتاب الحظر والإباحة)
