Assalaam u alaykum Many madaaris collect zakaah money and they give the collector 20%-30% commission, is it permissable? Which is the best place or person to give zakaah? salaam

Answer

(Fatwa: 657/609=D/1429)

(1)     To collect donation on commission is ijarah fasid which is unlawful. People should be employed on salary for collecting donation. However, it is allowable to give prize to those collecting donations the most.

(2)    (a) Giving zakah to the poor and needy among relatives and neighbours. (b) To give zakah directly to a poor student getting Islamic education. (c) Giving to madrasas wherein poor students stay and get religious educations and the zakah money is spent for food and other requirements of these students.
