I want to change my name

Answered according to Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
(1) My parents named me as Unais. But when I become 20 years old I felt that this name is not good. Now I want to change my name. Is it permissible in Islam to accept a new name without the permission of my parents ?
(2) What is the ruling of changing of name? What is the meaning of the name Yasir? I love that name very much.
(3) Please suggest a good name for me.

(Fatwa: 454/476/H=5/1438)

(1) The name Unais given by your parents is very good. There is no need to change it. Why you don’t like it that too when you have turned twenty years old, you might have used this name in your records in all your government documents etc then in such case it seems good for you not change the name.

(2) It is lawful to change the name, but in the question mentioned it is advised not to change your name.

(3) If the name Yasir sounds good to you and there is no problem in choosing this name, then there is no harm if you keep this name as some companions were named with this name.
