Is a nikah valid if the couple is not physically present at the time of the nikah?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
What is the view of Ulama in the light of Quran and Hadiths? “If a boy and girl (both are adult) stayed face to face in front of two male adult, firstly boy said to girl “I ….. son of …… accept you….. daughter of………. in my nikah”. Then the girl said to the boy “I ……… daughter of ……… came to you ……… son of ……… in your nikah”. They both said these words only once. There was no khutbah, no Qazi, no written records of this nikah, no mhar was fixed but they both had sex after that. The two witness adult male confirmed both the boy and girl about nikah that they were doing without any pressure or not. And they both said that they were aware, agree and were not in any pressure.
Was their nikah of this type valid or not ? Was their sex haram or halal?

In the question mentioned above if the said boy and girl did ijab-o-qubul (exchange of proper words of nikah) in the presence of two sane adult Muslim witnesses then their nikah was valid. The intercourse which they did after this nikah was lawful. However if the girl did her nikah against the will of her guardians out of her kufu then her guardians shall have the right to revoke this nikah by dragging the matter in Shariah Panchayat.
