Can Nikkah and Valima be performed on the same day?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
I wanted to know if nikah and walima can be performed on the same day. If so, can you please provide reference from Hadiths? Also, what is the maximum period allowed for walima to be performed after nikah is over? I heard that walima has to be performed within 3 days. Is it true?

(1) Yes, it is lawful to give walima on the same day before zifaf (meeting the souse) on the day of nikah. The Sunnah of walima shall be fulfilled. However, it is better to have walima after zifaf. It is the opinion of majority of Ulama.
(2) Allama Aini (رحمة الله) writes in Umdah al-Qari: (20:214, published by Dar al-Kutab al-Elmiya, Beirut) regarding the story of Hadhrat Zainab (رضي الله عنها) with the reference of Imam Baihaqi (رحمة الله عليه):
The holy Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) gave a wedding banquet (walima) when he (صلى الله عليه وسلم) did nikah with Hadhrat Zainab (رضي الله عنها) before zifaf.
Though it goes against most of the Hadiths as most of the Hadiths mention walima after zifaf, but it is enough for lawfulness.
(3) Walima should be given on the next day of zifaf after nikah. Unnecessary delay should not be made. And if there is some reason for example the bride is to be brought from a journey of three days then there is no harm in delaying.
