We were a tenant in a very old, without pagdi, independent house, the original landlord sold the property to a builder, who wanted us to vacate the house in exchange for money. This was used in buying 3 flats for our family. So was it allowed to receive the amount for this rental property?

It is not lawful to take money in order to vacate any rental property. It shall be like getting money illegally. You should return that much amount to the builder.
