Do I need to pay zakah on a plot I intend to keep for future use?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Some years back I have purchased one plot for myself and with the intent of keeping it for self and after that I have purchased another plot with the intent of selling and making profit on it, but now I have changed my intentions and do not want to sell the plot and keep it for future purpose for my kids. I used to pay zakah on that plot as I was planning to make a profit on it, now my question is do I need to pay zakah on the 2nd plot purchased as my intention now is to keep it for future.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

(Fatwa: 389/313/D=04/1435)

Zakah is not wajib on the plot which you bought with the intention of ownership only, whereas yearly zakah shall be wajib on the other plot bought with the intention of profit. But now when your intention has changed and you intended to retain it then no zakah shall be wajib from the time your intention changed. Thus now there is no zakah is wajib on you on both the plots.
