بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

(Fatwa: 1486/1471/N=11/1434)

The prevalent barat, which includes relatives and friends ranging from 60-70 to 400-500 persons, is a custom that has no base in Islam, rather it comprises of several other evils. Therefore, it should neither be invited nor participated. Only some 2-4 persons from bridegroom side should go to bride house along with the bridegroom and take the bride with them after nikah. The hadith states that a nikah that has less expenses has more barakah. (Mishkat, p 268 with reference of Shu’ab al-Iman of Baihaqi)
