I am a widow, I have two kids one kid is 6 years old other is 4 months old. My husband passed away 10 months back. I have no savings, no earning source, I do not have own house and no one to take care of us. My husband had taken some life insurance policy and education policy for one kid. I have received the claim amount and want to know if I can use the entire amount as I do not have any source of income, no own house, no savings and no one to take care of us.

(Fatwa: 1118/865/B=1434)

If you are poor and needy and widow and you have none to look after you then you may take the whole amount of the life insurance of your husband. The extra amount that is other than the capital amount is allowed for the needy and poor ones to use.

Note: However, if the capital amount is equal to nisab then you may not take the extra amount. It is necessary to give it in charity to the poor. (N)
