Can my wife give zakah to her mother & mine, if her mother is Syed & mine isn’t?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
I am from India like to know one Shariah ruling about zakah, my wife has jewels which was gifted by her parents and relatives during my marriage, now my wife is giving zakah of her own, by selling one of her jewel as she is house wife, if my wife mother is capable of getting the zakah money can my wife give the zakah money to her mother? Also my wife mother is Syed but father is not Syed and he is not eligible of giving zakah, in this situation can my wife give zakah to her mother? And I want to know whether my wife can give zakah to my mother and my mother is not Syed also eligible of getting zakah whereas my father is a Syed and not eligible of giving zakah.

Your wife cannot give her zakah to her real mother (your mother-in-law). However, she may give her zakah to your mother provided she is not a Sayyid and she is entitled to receive zakah.
