What does the holy Quran and hadith say regarding the following?
I have seen a muazzin and even the imam of that Masjid once or twice get up from sleep for the Fajr salah and without performing wudhu just went to the room switched on the microphone and said the azan. Now my question is that whether wudhu is necessary for saying azan or not?

It is not necessary to do wudhu for azan. It is also done without wudhu, but it is better (mustahab) to call azan with wudhu.
