Is it haram for an Imam to do real estate business to support his family?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Is doing a real estate business not allowed in Islam? One of the Imams in Chennai started real estate business to fulfill his family needs apart from the Imamah of the mosque. The people in the locality stopped praying in his mosque saying that it is haram. Please explain in the light of Islamic Shariah.

In Islam the business of property is also lawful, like other halal and lawful businesses, provided the Shariah principles are maintained in selling and buying the same. Those who call it haram should be asked to produce the proof.
