Did Mufti Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi (rah) allow celebrating birthdays?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta Deoband Waqf
Respected Mufti Saheb
Assalamualaykum ww
I pray Mufti saheb is in the best of health and imaan.
I’ve always understood that celebrating birthdays is not allowed in islam. Someone mentioned to me that in Fatawa Rasheediyah, a question was asked regarding feeding on the childs birthday. the answer given was that it is allowed. A screenshot was also shown.
So basically the word going around is that Muhtaram Mufti Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi Saheb RA says that celebrating birthdays is permissible.
Is this correct?
Jazakallah Khair

In the name of Allah the most gracious the most merciful

The answer to your question is as follows:

Feeding on the occasion of a child’s birth to express one’s pleasure is allowed. But this is not called ‘birth day celebration’. Birthday is celebrated each year and this was not allowed in ‘Fatawa Rasheeiya’.  Feeding on the day of a child’s birth has no relation with the birthday celebration of our time.

And Allah knows best
