Buying from a non-Muslim Butchery

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: I would like to know if it is permissible to buy from a non-Muslim owned butchery who claims that the supplier is certified as Halaal?

Answer by SANHA: Our ref: hl/128/03.10/m

In terms of the Shari’ah, all meat / meat products must be purchased through either Muslim outlets or through such Halaal outlets which are supervised and maintained by a bonafide, authorised Muslim organisation.

We therefore discourage Muslims from purchasing their meat/ meat products from such avenues irrespective of the name of the certifying body which may appear on the packaging.
