Iman as a Name

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za

Q: I had a newborn daughter and I want to name her “Iman” meaning faith. It is a popular name in the Middle East.  I want to know if there this name is Islamically permissible. Someone might say: “Iman is not here (Faith is not here).”

A: It will be okay to keep this name. At that time the person is being referred to and not the quality of Iman. In my humble opinion a better name is Mu’minah – a female with Iman.

Allah Ta’aala knows best.
