Loop, Spotting and Periods

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askmufti.co.za
Q: Since I changed my loop 7 months ago I have been spottng/bleedng continuously. In the last 2 months I had a full bleed also (just lke a normal haid). Which days must I take as haid (periods)? My habit is 10 days. If I take 10 days as haid and 15 as days clean then the full bleed days are not days of haid. Must I ignore the spotting/bleedng and wait for the full bleed as haid?

A. Consider your habit of ten days. Ten days as per habit will be Haidh and the rest will be Istihaadhah. Your minimum time of clean days will be fifteen.

If bleeding takes place after insertion of the loop, usually cauterization helps. Speak to your medical practitioner.

Mufti Siraj Adds:
You also need to determine which 10 days of the month is your habit: the start, middle, or end. If you don’t know this, and the bleeding is continuous, meaning there is no 15-day clean period or more, then count the first 10 days as Haidh and 20 days as Istihaadhah.

And Allah Ta’aala knows Best.
