Difficulty wearing the Niqab

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I have a problem due to which i am unable to cover my face. i am a doctor myself and i do pardah without covering face. i attempted to cover my face three times but whenever i cover my face and hence my nose with hijab, i felt suffocation to the extent that i became sweaty and had dizziness, except during the winters. this problem also happens to me when i continue to stand for more than half an hour.

medically i know that this problem is called vasovagal inhibition, and there is no treatment for it and it is a type of sensitivity that some normal individuals face, and that the only way to save onself is to avoid such situation which leads to it, yet i desire so much to cover my face. same is the problem with my mother. i cover all, except my face. i also got a medical consultation for it, and that doctor said just avoid standing for prolonged periods or cover the face, and it will be normal. what should i do? please guide

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

If you experience the condition stated in your query, then you will be excused from wearing the niqab (face cover). In the presence of men (ghair mahram) lower your gaze and avoid free intermingling.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
