Going out in jamaa’at without the consent of one’s parents

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I want clarificaton on a previous answer where it is stated that

`it is permissible for him to go on in tabligh jamat without his parents approval, tabligh jamat is one of the methods to learn about islam and imaan and one will no be guilty of disobedianceof he goes in jamat`

what i want to know is to go jamat is mubah, if the parents disapproves of it and are unhappy, then how can one go on jamat when saying uff is haram, the prophet s.a.w forbade a man on going out on jihad and told him to look after his mother. i have read that in permissible acts you have to obey your parents but not in fardh or wajib and sunnah muakidah acts.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Hereunder is the specific portion of the fatwa you refer to:

“However, if the parents are not weak but are preventing the son from participating in tabligh jamaat due to them not having the importance of Deen, but in worldly affairs they would approve of him going for few days, then he will not be considered disobeying them if he goes out in jamaat, provided he does not have the basic understanding of Deen. In this situation it will be permissible for him to go in tabligh jamaat without his parent’s approval.”

You should understand the fatwa in the context. Going out in jamaa’at is also a way of learning the basics of deen which is fardh ‘ayn.[1] If this person were to not go, he would be neglecting his obligation of learning the basics of deen. Even in that situation, we advised to consult with the elders of tableegh for guidance.

If the person knows the basics of deen or he can learn the basics of deen locally, then it is advisable for him to seek his parents’ permission to go in tableegh. The parents should be considerate to the child’s love and enthusiasm for deen.
