Is it allowed to keep the name Ashazuddin

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

My nephew name is Ashazuddin .Is this a right name?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Unfortunately, we were unable to locate the meaning of the exact name in reference.

It is advisable to keeps names of Ambiya (‘alayhimussalaam), Sahabah (radhiyAllahu ‘anhum) and pious predecessors.

Nevertheless, a close word to the name in reference is اِشادة , which means “to elevate”[1]. The name would then be pronounced as “Ishadat uddin”.

Another alternative is اَشاد, which means “one who has elevated”[2]. This would then be pronounced as “Ashada addiin”.
