A Taraweeh Service Fee

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

My query is related to Taraveeh prayer during month of Ramazan, pls clarify if it allowed to arrange for a hafiz who will come to our society and help us to pray taraveeh namaz, if the masjid is not around, in return we pay some money to the hafi-e-quran.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullahi wa-barakatuh.

It is an act of good virtue to arrange for a Hafiz to come to ones locality in order to lead the Taraaweeh Salaah. This is an expression of ones love and respect for the month of Ramadaan and the Quraan.

The host may arrange for travel expenses and living expenses for the Hafiz.[1] However, it is not permissible to remunerate the Hafiz of the Quraan in order to lead the Taraaweeh Salaah.[2]
