Vomiting Whilst Fasting and Qadha

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I have a question regarding the validity of my fast. Two hours after Suhoor, I woke up with terrible nausea and stomachache and after a while, vomited all that I had taken in the past hours. I had read and heard many times that a fast is broken when one vomits so I assumed mine was too and I drank a glass of water to clear away the dizziness. I later found out that my fast was not broken. I want to know if I should make compensation because I didn’t know of this.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullahi wa-barakatuh.

The vomiting of a fasting person unintentionally does not nullify ones fast. Hence, your fast was not broken.

However, only Qadha will have to be kept of that fast.[1]
