Can a Kafir touch the Qur’ān?

 I have question regarding one of your Fatwar: 28649 Touching Quran without Wadu.

You stated that it is not allowed to touch Quran with out Wadu. In this case if non muslim wants to read it and interested in knowing Islam, they don’t know what Wadu is. so we are not allowed to give them Quran then! U can’t teach them Wadu when you give them Quran to read. I usually tell them to please clean your self up in a polite manner.  Please explain.

If this is allowed as an exception, then only Muslims are not allowed to touch. In that case correction is required in that Fatwa.

Please help with this question, cuz we are in Canada and we distribute so many Qurans to non muslim when they show interest in reading our book.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is permissible to give a non-Muslim a Qur’aan on the following conditions:

1. He/she shows respect to the Qur’aan.
2. There is no fear of him/her disrespecting the Qur’aan.
3. He/she performs Ghusl or wudhu according to one’s condition of Janabah before handling the Qur’aan. Hence, it is necessary for one be taught how to perform Ghusl and Wudhu before giving him/her the Qur’aan.[1]

Hence, whether it is a Muslim or non-Muslim, it is necessary for one to have wudhu before handling the Qur’aan. We hope this clears your misconception.
