Can a female shorten her hair due to a medical condition?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Is it permissible for a women to cut her hair short i.e till shoulder or a little more in length,so that she can later take care of them properly, as her hair have become inflicted with dandruff and are falling off a lot. And she also practices Hijab.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Based on our understanding of the medical condition described, we are unable to see any leeway on part of the woman in question to trim her hair. Alternatives will have to be explored.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
