Can a person sponsor other person a Hajj or Umrah, without performing it oneself , though he/she is capable of doing it oneself?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Ĥajj is an obligation like Salah. If one does not perform Ĥajj despite being capable of doing so, he will be sinful. As such, if one only has sufficient funds to pay for his own Ĥajj expenses, then he should not sponsor another person.[1] Yes, if one does not intend performing Ĥajj for the time being, it is permissible to sponsor someone else to perform Ĥajj as this is an avenue of attaining reward. However, this will not absolve one from his personal obligation of Ĥajj.
