Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Shariah emphasises on the rights of parents. We should be obedient to them and serve them as much as we can. However, it is not permissible to disobey Allah Taala and violate the laws of Shariah to please ones parents. Allah Taala mentions in the Quraan:

وَإِنْ جَاهَدَاكَ عَلَى أَنْ تُشْرِكَ بِي مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ فَلَا تُطِعْهُمَا وَصَاحِبْهُمَا فِي الدُّنْيَا مَعْرُوفًا

If they (your parents) compel you to commit shirk (polytheism) with Me, then do not obey them. Associate with them in the world with kindness. (Luqman-15)

Under the commentary of this verse Hafiz ibn Katheer Rahimahullah mentions the above verse was revealed in lieu of what occurred between Saad bin Malik Radiallahu Anhu and his mother. Saad bin Malik Radiallahu Anhu mentions that I was a person that was very good to his mother. When I accepted Islam my mother said oh Saad what is this innovation that I am seeing you adopting? Its either you leave Islam or else I will stop eating and drinking until I die. Then, people will taunt you saying “oh the one that killed his mother”. Saad Radiallahu Anhu mentions I tried to stop her but she stopped eating. On the third day when her difficulty (hunger) was at its peak I said “oh my mother I would like you to know that even if you had one hundred souls and you were to sacrifice one after the other I would never leave my Deen. If you want to then, eat and if you don’t want to then, don’t.”[1]

It is also mentioned in a hadith:

عن على رضى الله عنه عن النبى صلى الله عليه و سلم قال لا طاعةَ لمخلوقٍ في معصية الله عز وجل

Ali Radiyallahu Anhu mentions that Rasulullah Salallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam said: “there is no obedience to creation in disobedience to the creator.”[2]

It is clear from the above that it is not permissible for one to commit sins even if ones parents commands them to do so. Taking out pictures of animate objects, wearing silk for males and music are all prohibited in Shariah and sinful.
