What is the ruling regarding cutting of nails and hair after seeing the moon of Dhul Hijjah?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

WHAT ABOUT CUTTING OF NAILS AND HAIR AFTER SEEING THE MOON OF zILHAJ?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The Fuqahaa (Jurists) have mentioned that it is Mustahab for one doing Qurbani to abstain from cutting one’s nails and hair during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.

However, if one has not cut one’s hair for forty days or more, one should cut one’s hair irrespective of the above.[1]

Furthermore, if one’s nails are so long that it may injure one, one may cut one’s nails.[2]

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
