If a person is ill and unable to perform wuḍū neither can he perform tayammum by himself, can another person do the tayammum for him?

Answer

Assalāmu `alaikum Warahmatullāhi Wabrakatuh,

If it is not possible for a person to use water neither can he do tayammum by himself, it will be permissible for someone else to make the tayammum for him on condition that the sick person makes intention for tayammum.

If the person making the tayammum for the sick person uses both his hands when wiping it over the limbs of the sick person then he will have to strike the object which he is using for tayammum three times. however, if the person making the tayammum only uses one hand, as in the case when making tayammum for one’s self, then two strokes will suffice.
