If a woman’s husband has died and there is no one to to earn in her family and she has kids as well, can she leave her house for earning during her ‘iddah?
In the Name of Allāh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Yes, a woman can leave her house and take up employment if she does not have the money to support herself and her children during ‘iddah. However, she should always spend the nights at her home.
If any of her relatives can support her financially during her ‘iddah so that she does not have to work, then that would be a voluntary good deed worthy of considerable reward, Insha-Allah. [i] [ii] [iii]

بيان للفرق بين معتدة الموت ومعتدة الطلاق قال في الهداية : وأما المتوفى عنها زوجها فلأنه لا نفقة لها فتحتاج إلى الخروج نهارا لطلب المعاش وقد يمتد إلى أن يهجم الليل ولا كذلك المطلقة لأن النفقة دارة عليها من مال زوجها ا هـ قال في الفتح : والحاصل أن مدار حل خروجها بسبب قيام شغل المعيشة فيتقدر بقدره ، فمتى انقضت حاجتها لا يحل لها بعد ذلك صرف الزمان خارج بيتها
