Performing just one prayer regularly so that one may be benefited from atleast one prayer e.g Maghrib is right or wrong?

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh
It is necessary to pray every single prayer in its time. This is a defining characteristic of a Muslim. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said,
حدثنا قتيبة حدثنا جرير وأبو معاوية عن الأعمش عن أبي سفيان عن جابر أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال بين الكفر والإيمان ترك الصلاة
(سنن الترمذي، كتاب الإيمان، باب ترك الصلاة: 5/13؛ إحياء التراث)
The (difference) between disbelief and faith is leaving the prayer (Tirmidhī)
The Companions رضي الله عنهم differentiated between the importance of prayer and all other actions, such that they believed only a disbeliever would leave prayer.
حدثنا قتيبة حدثنا بشر بن المفضل عن الجريري عن عبد الله بن شقيق العقيلي قال كان أصحاب محمد صلى الله عليه و سلم لا يرون شيئا من الأعمال تركه كفر غير الصلاة

The Companions of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم did not believe the leaving of any action as disbelief, except for prayer (Tirmidhī)
Due to the importance of prayer, it is the first of a person’s actions that he/she will be accounted for on the Day of Judgment [i]. Although praying at least one out of the five prayers regularly is better than not praying at all, a Muslim cannot be content with it as the first thing Allāh Ta’ālā will take a person into account on the Day of Judgment will be his prayers. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said,
حدثنا علي بن نصر بن علي حدثنا سهل بن حماد حدثنا همام حدثني قتادة عن الحسن عن حريب بن قبيصة قال : قدمت المدينة فقلت اللهم يسر لي جليسا صالحا قال فجلست إلى أبي هريرة فقلت إني سألت الله أن يرزقني جليسا صالحا فحدثني بحديث سمعته من رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم لعل الله أن ينفعني به فقال سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه و سلم يقول إن أول ما يحاسب به العبد يوم القيامة من عمله صلاته فإن صلحت فقد أفلح وأنجح وإن فسدت فقد خاب…

Verily, the first thing a servant will be accounted for on the Day of Judgment from his actions will be his prayer. If this is good, then he has certainly succeeded. And if this is bad, then he has certainly failed… (Tirmidhī)
Therefore, the person should be consistent and regular in all five of his daily fard (compulsory) prayers. Moreover, if he misses a prayer due to some reason beyond his control, then he should make it up as soon as possible.

حدثنا يعقوب بن إبراهيم حدثنا إسماعيل حدثنا يونس عن الحسن عن أنس بن حكيم الضبى قال خاف من زياد أو ابن زياد فأتى المدينة فلقى أبا هريرة قال فنسبنى فانتسبت له فقال يا فتى ألا أحدثك حديثا قال قلت بلى رحمك الله. قال يونس أحسبه ذكره عن النبى صلى الله عليه وسلم قال إن أول ما يحاسب الناس به يوم القيامة من أعمالهم الصلاة قال يقول ربنا جل وعز لملائكته وهو أعلم انظروا فى صلاة عبدى أتمها أم نقصها فإن كانت تامة كتبت له تامة وإن كان انتقص منها شيئا قال انظروا هل لعبدى من تطوع فإن كان له تطوع قال أتموا لعبدى فريضته من تطوعه ثم تؤخذ الأعمال على ذاكم
