According to Hanafi school of thoughts, how should I (being resident) complete my Four rakat salah following a traveler (Musafir) Imam performing Qasr.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org
According to Hanafi school of thoughts, how should I (being resident) complete my Four rakat salah following a traveler (Musafir) Imam performing Qasr. That is, should I have to recite Fateha (surat) in rest of the rakats (3rd & 4th)? If not, then for how long should I stand in each rakat? Also, what should be my approach for the same scenario in Arafat (during Hajj) following Imam (Hajj) & combining Zohr – Asr?

Answer

1.      If a mūqīm (resident) is following a Musāfir (travelling) Imām is Salāh, he should not recite Sūrah Fātihah in his third and fourth rak‘ats. He is technically still regarded as a muqtadī despite the fact that the Imām has completed his Salāh; thus, he should not recite any qirā’ah like a normal muqtadī behind a resident Imām. He will be required to complete the Qiyām (standing posture) only and the minimum amount of time required to fulfill this position is the amount of time it would take to recite three Tasbīhs (similar to the amount of time one spends in Rukū‘ or Sajdah).

2.       If you are a muqīm on the day of ‘Arafah and the Imām of Hajj is a Musāfir whereby he shortens the Zuhr and ‘Asr salāhs from four rak‘ats to two, then you should complete the remaining two rak‘ats after the Imām completes his two rak‘ats. You should complete the third and fourth rak‘ats without reciting Fātihah as mentioned above. If the Imām of Hajj is a muqīm, he will perform four rak‘ats for Zuhr and ‘Asr and you will follow him in all four rak‘ats. The Imām of Hajj is not allowed to shorten the Salāh from four rak‘ats to two rak‘ats if he is not a musāfir. If it is established that the Imām of Hajj did so, the salāh will have to be repeated.
