(1) I cant seem to give up sins. I seem to be able to give it up for 1 or 2 days and then after that i cant control my nafs anymore and i give in..what advise can you give me?? (2) It is said that it is not recommended for one who doesnt know the laws of Hadith to just open up a copy of Saheen Bukhari for example, and start reading it and making amal on its teachings. What do you recommend for people like us?? (3) Please give me the meanings of the names Sumaya, Nazia, and Jamaal. Jazakallah Khair…Asalaamu alaikum

Answer

1. We are human, our nature is to err and falter. Therefore, there is nothing to be despondent of. Allah, our Crreator, is waiting for our repentance and Tawbah. In one Hadith, Nabi (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said that Allah says, ?Oh my servants, if your sins amount to the space between the sky and earth and you turn to me in forgiveness, most certainly I shall pardon you.? However, we wish to advise you that before committing a sin ponder for a second, that if my parents or some close relative was here, would I commit this sin? Reflect and ponder, Allah is closer to us than our jugular vein. He is looking at us at all times. How can I commit this sin? By thinking of this, Insha Allah, one shall be turned away from the sin.

2. We do not have any apparent reason for discouraging the aforementioned translation of Sahih Bukhari.

However, we are unable to comment on the brief commentary that is included in it. Furthermore, we do not encourage people who are not fully equipped with the technicality of Islamic jurisprudence to merely open a book of Hadith that consists of various types of narrations for the fear that this may lead to unnecessary confusion. We suggest more simple works such as Riyaadhus-saaliheen of Imaam Nawawiy which has Ahaadith on more practical and pertinent topics.

3. Jamaal: Beauty; elegance; comeliness; of good looks and character., Names; Mohammad Jamaal, Jamaalud-Deen, Jamaal Ahmad/Husain. Sumaiyah: Name of a lady sahaabi (RA) who was the first amongst ladies to be martyred for Islaam. Nazeerah: Anything offered as a token of respect; anything given as sacrifice; a child who has been dedicated by his parents to serve Allah
