Is it permissible for a muslim to smoke marajuana? if one has already done so how long would one have to wait before one can make 5 daily namaaz and ask for forgiveness?

Answer

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalaamu `alaykum waRahmatullahi Wabarakatuh

Marijuana is an intoxicant and haram like all other intoxicants. Nabi صلى الله عليه و سلم prohibited from anything which causes a lapse to the mind.

Umm Salma رضى الله عنها reports that Nabi صلى الله عليه و سلم prohibited from every intoxicant and anything which causes a lapse to the mind. (Abu Dawood 2/163 Saeed)

Ibn Umar رضى الله عنه narrates that Nabi صلى الله عليه و سلم said:

Every intoxicant is khamr, and every intoxicant is prohibited. He who dies whilst in the habit of taking intoxicants will not have of the intoxicants of the hereafter”

(Abu Dawood 2/162 Saeed)

Therefore one should immediately turn towards Allah Ta’ala, ask for forgiveness and start performing five daily salah. Do not become despondent from the mercy of Allah Ta’ala. Allah Ta’ala says in the Noble Quran

“Say to my servants who have wrong themselves don’t loose hope in the mercy of Allah for verily Allah forgives all sins. Verily He is the Most Forgiving Most Merciful. (39/53)

Allah Ta’ala mentions in the Noble Quran:

“And My mercy encompasses all things” (7/156)

“Verily Allah Ta’ala accepts the repentance of his servant as long as he his not in the throws of death” (Tirmidhi 2/194 Saeed)

One should also make dua and ask Allah Ta’ala for help and steadfastness.

And Allah knows best

Wassalam
