Are Sunnis a sect, a division, are we right in saying we are sunni Muslim, please explain.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I would like to know that I am a Sunni, but does that mean I am not a Muslim like Shias, because some people say sunnis are a sect and do not follow Islam like our beloved Nabi saw but thats not true, I don’t see what I am doing different in worshipping Allah, I follow the what the Quran says. Please tell me if sunnis are not Muslims, what I should do.

Answer

Sunnis are people who follow the injunctions of Allah as shown to us by His
beloved Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) through the transmission of
his illustrious companions. Shi’as are not Muslims. Somewhere on this site,
search ‘Unbridgeable Divide’ (without quotes)
