Answer

Sister in Islam.                                                                                                                                             Salaah is one of the five pillars of Islam and the most important part of our religion after Imaan. Shariah has greatly emphasised performing salah on time. Consider the following verses.

Translation: Indeed prayer was prescribed upon the believers to be performed at fixed times. (Surah Nisaa verse 103)

Translation: Guard/Protect (your) prayers and particularly the middle prayer and stand before Allah with devotion (Surah Baqarah verse 238)

The Prophet Sallalaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam also emphasised performing salah on time. See the following Ahaadith

Translation: The Prophet (Sallalaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) was once asked which action is most virtuous? He replied “Performing salah in its initial/exact time”[i]

From the above verses of Quraan and Ahadeeth of the prophet (Sallalaahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) we can guage the extreme importance of performing Salaah on time. If your family wants to go out a few minutes before the time of Salaah then ask them to wait for you to first perform your Salaah and encourage them to join you as well. If that is not possible or they refuse to do so, you should not accompany them. You should give priority to performing Salaah on time and avoid any situation where you will compromise performing Salaah on time.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
