Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I don’t know how to express myself. I am a 24 year old practicing muslimah. I have done my MBBS 2 years back. I am not very religious, but since some months I have been feeling I am surrounded by complete darkness. I am consecutively failing my exams for 2 time. I am not getting any success .I a m not getting any job. I am just fed up of myself but Idont want to give up. As “Mayusi is kufr” but I feel like I am losing hope and connection with my Allah. I cannot find a way of guidance.

I cannot getup at fajar despite of alarms although I offer qaza & pray other 4 namaz regularly with Qur’an and different duas daily.

Lease give some easy wazifa for me to succeed in my november exam, get a suitable marriage proposal & become a more good muslimah.

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh

I hope and pray that this message reaches you in a state of strong faith and excellent health. Ameen

We are pleased to hear that you are a practicing Muslimah. Despite being faced with struggle and adversity you have endured up to this point. Know that, without a doubt, Allah will reward you in full for your endless efforts. Nothing you do for the sake of Allah will ever go to waste.

As we live in this temporary world, it’s important to consider few important points.

Firstly, this world is temporary and the next life is everlasting. This world is the place of striving and the Hereafter is the place of reward or punishment, where the believers will be rewarded with Paradise and the disbelievers will be punished. If we contemplate over the shortness of this life, then even if we were to lose some material comfort in this life, we should still consider it an accomplishment because of the reward we will attain in the hereafter.

Secondly, attaining paradise will not be easy. Paradise is something that’s valuable to Allah. When something is valuable to someone, the price is high. The same goes for paradise.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) states:

“Indeed, the item of Allah is expensive.  Indeed, the item of Allah is Paradise.” [1]

(Sunan al-Tirmidhi  (4/214)

It is important to remind ourselves of such Ahadith to remember that hardship is bound to be part of our life. Yes, we implore from Allah to ease our struggle. However, the fact of the matter is, difficulties will be experienced in our lives at one point or another. One underlying wisdom behind these tests and trials is for our own state to become apparent to us – so that we see for ourselves how we reacted and what we did in the Dunya .

See the following Ayaat:

وَلَـنَبۡلُوَنَّكُمۡ بِشَىۡءٍ مِّنَ الۡخَـوۡفِ وَالۡجُـوۡعِ وَنَقۡصٍ مِّنَ الۡاَمۡوَالِ وَالۡاَنۡفُسِ وَالثَّمَرٰتِؕ وَبَشِّرِ الصّٰبِرِيۡنَۙ‏ (سورة البقرة: 155)

And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to the patient. (Surah al-Baqarah:155)

{لم (1) أَحَسِبَ النَّاسُ أَنْ يُتْرَكُوا أَنْ يَقُولُوا آمَنَّا وَهُمْ لَا يُفْتَنُونَ (2) وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ فَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ صَدَقُوا وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ الْكَاذِبِينَ}

“Do people think that they will be left simply to say: We believe! and they will not be put to the test?  Yet, very truly, We have tested all those who came before them.  Thus Allah shall, most surely, distinguish those who speak the truth about their belief.  And He shall, most surely, distinguish the liars.” –)Surah al-‘Ankabūt: 2-3(

It is  understood from this last verse that not only the people who are unmindful to Allah will be tested, rather the believers will be put into trials. Striving and struggling for Allah was a symbol and hallmark for the pious people. Consider this point, our beloved Rasullullah (Sallalahu Alayhi Wasallam) was the greatest of all mankind; Allah loved him dearly and yet throughout his life he was placed with extreme trials of persecution, threats of insults and threats of murder. The Quraysh even plotted to assassinate Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam)-the same person they previously called “Trustworthy”. Despite All this Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) was still appreciative and happy simply because he understood the wisdom behind the struggles experienced in life.

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) states:

Anas bin Malik (Radiyallahu Anhu) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: “The greatest reward comes with the greatest trial. When Allah loves a people, He tests them. Whoever accepts that wins His pleasure.[2] ( Sunan Ibn Majah 2/ 1338)

You state you are consecutively failing your exams and you are not succeeding in getting a job.

Allah will never test you with conditions beyond your ability.

Allah says in the following ayat:

لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللّٰهُ نَفۡسًا اِلَّا وُسۡعَهَا (سورة البقرة:286)

Allah does not lay a responsibility on anyone beyond his capacity. (Sura al-Baqarah:286)

However, if you exert yourself to study for your exams and you tried your best to find a job, and yet you still did not succeed. Then adopt sabr and understand that this a test from Allah. Allah is testing your patience. We believe Allah Ta’ala is Al-Hakeem (the Absolute Wise). Every decree of Allah Ta’ala has wisdom, irrespective of us comprehending it or not. This is what is best for you. We have to place our trust in Allah and have conviction that we are under His care. It is not always easy, but as we stated earlier, paradise is not cheap. The more we strive and sacrifice for Allah’s cause, the sweeter and greater the reward will be inshallah.

Thirdly, a dilemma we are faced with in today’s time is the notion people have of a “good life.” They assume  having a good life means a life of wealth and affluence. However, this is not true. We have seen many people who are financially well off with the finest jobs that are still miserable. A Good life is when Allah  grants us contentment of the heart regardless of the circumstance we are faced with.  And that can only happen when we hold firm to Allah’s command. Focus on the present. Return to Allah by engaging in his remembrance and Allah will bring you serenity and peace of mind.

Reflect on the following verse:

)الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُمْ بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ)الرعد: 28(

“Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah, Verily, the contentment of the heart lies in the remembrance of Allah. (Ar-Ra’d: 28)

See the following Hadīth:[3]

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said “Indeed Allah Most High says: ‘I am as My slave thinks of Me, and I am with him when He calls upon Me.'”

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: Allah, said: If My slave loves to meet Me, I love to meet him, and if he hates to meet Me, I hate to meet him.”‘ [4]

Furthermore, you are young and you wish to excel in this field of spirituality and closeness to Allah. If your alarm clock doesn’t wake you up, then you may look for another alternative. You may even Sleep on the floor, inform the family members to wake you up or sleep early as possible. However, if waking up is still difficult, then Allah will not hold you responsible as you had endeavored in every way possible.

You may Read Surah Yaseen in the beginning of the day and Surah Mulk before you go to bed.

Also engage yourself with the zikr of Allah in the  the morning and evening to do the three tasbeehāt which is:

The third kalimah hundred times.

Durood shareef hundred times.

Istigfar hundred times and read the following dua:

Furthermore, recite the following dua:

اللهُمَّ صُبَّ عَلَيْنا الْخَيْرَ صَبًّا صَبًّا، وَلَا تَجْعَلْ عَيْشَنا كَدًّا كَدًّا
(O’ Allah, pour goodness upon us and don’t make our life hard.)[5]

Recite the following verse of the           Qurān for a suitable and happy marriage:

{ وَالَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا } [الفرقان: 74]

Our lord! Grant unto us spouses and offspring who will be the comfort of our eyes, and give us(the grace) to lead righteous.(25:74)

Lastly, listen to the discourse of our honorable Ustāth Hadarat Mufti Ebrahim Desai (Hafidhahullah), Qasida Burdah.

May Allah grant you the strength and ability to please him, and refrain from those things which will anger him. And may he grant you a life of peace and happiness. Amin.

And Allaah Ta’aala Knows Best.
