My question is in regards to Memorization of Quran. When I was young I was very excited in memorizing the Quran. I believe its the will of Allah whatever happens happens for a reason. Nevertheless, I memorized 1 para and then developed constipation and back pain and could not read it. In other words I couldn’t continue on. I met a shaykh he said to me to read the quran and not to memorize it. My question is will I be punished in the court of Allah for forgetting the Quran.

Brother in Islam,
We are sorry to hear of the difficulties and hardship you have faced. In reality, any difficulty a Muslim faces does not go to waste. Rather, when one is faced with a difficulty and he deals with the difficulty patiently for the sake of Allah, this becomes a means for his ranks in paradise to increase and a means for his sins to be forgiven. Consider the following Hadith:
عن عائشة رضي الله عنها قالت سمعت رسول الله ﷺ قال ما من مسلم يشاك شوكة فما فوقها إلا كتبت له بها درجة و محيت عنه بها خطيئة (روه مسلم:6561)
Translation: Aishah Radhiyallahu Anha narrates that I heard Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: No Muslim is pierced by a thorn, or is inflicted with something even less, except that he is elevated by one rank (in paradise) and a sin is erased for him. (Muslim:6561)
Indeed, memorizing the Qur’an is a very rewarding task. Multiple Ahadeeth have been related in virtue of the person who memorizes the Qur’an. See the following hadeeth:
عن عبد الله ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما عن النبيﷺ قال يقال يعني لصاحب القرن اقرأ و ارتق ورتل كما كنت ترتل في الدنيا فإن منزلتك عند آخر آية تقرأ بها (رواه الترمذي:2914)
Translation: Abdullah Ibn Umar Radhiyallahu Anhuma narrates from Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam: It will be said to the man devoted to the Qur’an: Recite and ascend, recite slowly and distinctly as you used to recite in the world, for indeed, your abode will be where you come to the last verse you recite (Tirmidhi: 2914)
We advise that you continuously strive to memorize the Qur’an, even if one may not intend to finish. In addition, try to make a practical plan to revise the one juz already memorised.
A person is rewarded based on his intentions. If a person continuously strives to memorize the Qur’an and passes way in the process, it is hoped that he will be resurrected amongst the huffaaz.
As for your question, in principle, the warnings regarding one who forgets the Qur’an refers to the person who is not able to recall the Qur’an even while looking inside.[i] Therefore, you will not fall under this category.
