Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

As salaamu alaikum Mufti
Firstly I would like to say thank you for your inspirational advice, however right now I’m feeling hopeless, I having being begging Allah for help regarding a job, I have performed Tahajjud for 50 days now, reciting quran everyday, zikr everyday but my duas are still not being accepted.I had an interview and was so sure that this was from Allah and it did not go well. I’m feeling extremely helpless and losing hope in my duas and effort. Please advise how to overcome this, I am trying to understand but I just can’t

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Brother in Islam,

We make Du’aa Allah Ta’ala assist you in your current situation.

If a person makes du’aa with complete conviction, then surely Allah Ta’ala will accept  his du’aa. Allah Ta’ala mentions in the Quraan Majeed:

وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ٱدۡعُونِیۤ أَسۡتَجِبۡ لَكُمۡۚ

Translation:And your Lord says, “Call upon Me; I will respond to you.”[40:60]

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said:

 عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ قَالَ ‏ “‏ إِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ حَيِيٌّ كَرِيمٌ يَسْتَحْيِي مِنْ عَبْدِهِ أَنْ يَرْفَعَ إِلَيْهِ يَدَيْهِ فَيَرُدَّهُمَا صِفْرًا – أَوْ قَالَ خَائِبَتَيْنِ ‏”‏ ‏

Translation: “Your Lord is Kind and Most Generous, He feels shy that His servant raises his hands to Him (in Du’aa) and He returns them back empty”(Sunan Ibn Majah 3865)

Your prayers will definitely be accepted, however, everything has an appointed time.

Allah Ta’ala assured Moosa (Alaihi Salaam) that He has indeed accepted his Du’aa, but Moosa (Alaihi Salaam) only saw the acceptance of his du’aa 40 years later.1

When Yusuf (Alaihi Salaam) was separated from his Father, Yakoob (Alaihi Salaam). Yakoob (Alaihi Salaam) continued making du’aa and crying before Allah Ta’ala until he had even became blind. Only after eighty years he saw the acceptance of his du’aa.[i]

We advise you to be steadfast in making du’aa and never question why your du’aa is not being accepted. Allah Ta’ala is All-Hearing. He is hearing your du’aa and will respond when He knows it is best for you. Perhaps this job was not good for you and Allah Ta’ala, through His Infinite Wisdom has something better in store for you.

Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam said:

لا يزال يستجاب للعبد ما لم يدعُ بإثم أو قطيعة رحم ما لم يستعجل‏.‏ قيل يا رسول الله ما الاستعجال‏؟‏ قال يقول قد دعوت وقد دعوت فلم أرَ من يستجب لي فيستحسر عند ذلك ويدع الدعاء‏.‏

Translation: “The supplication of a slave continues to be granted as long as he does not supplicate for a sinful thing or for something that would cut off the ties of kinship and he does not grow impatient.” It was said: “O Messenger of Allah! What does growing impatient mean?” He (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) said, “(A person) says: ‘I supplicated again and again but I do not think that my prayer will be answered.’ Then he becomes frustrated (in such circumstances) and gives up supplication altogether.”

(Muslim 1499)

Therefore continue pleading before Allah Ta’ala at the time of Tahajjud and also after the Faradh salaah. It appears in one Hadith:

عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ، قَالَ قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَىُّ الدُّعَاءِ أَسْمَعُ قَالَ ‏”‏ جَوْفُ اللَّيْلِ الآخِرُ وَدُبُرَ الصَّلَوَاتِ الْمَكْتُوبَاتِ

Translation: “It was asked: ‘O Messenger of Allah, which supplication is most listened to (i.e. answered most quickly)?’ He said: ‘(During) the last part of the night, and at the end of the obligatory prayers.’( Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3499)

We advise you to read Salaat al Haajaat and Salaat al Istikharah daily and thereafter make du’aa.

We also advise you to consult with appropriate people in seeking a job and what steps to adopt in seeking a job. Adopt all possible means and make du’aa to Allah Ta’ala to guide you to the means of a job and put effect in the means. Thereafter, leave the rest to Allah Ta’ala and be hopeful. Never be despondent once you presented your case to Allah Ta’ala and asked for His help. Allah Ta’ala mentions in the Quraan Majeed

Translation: ‘ So, undoubtedly, along with the hardship there is ease. Undoubtedly, along with the hardship there is ease’(94/6)

We make du’aa Allah Ta’ala grant you a good job and a halal and wholesome means of income. Ameen

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
