Assalamualaykum mufti
Ive named my 2 month old daughter Durayrah , from the dimunitive Durrah who was a sahaabiyah , is this okay according to the arabic language ?
Jazaakallah
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
May Allah make your child the coolness of your eyes and a means of rewards in this world and the hereafter. Ameen.
In principle, we are encouraged to keep good and meaningful names for our children as names have an influence on the child’s personality and character. If a word does not have a bad meaning, it is permissible to keep it as a name.
Durayrah (دريرة) is the diminutive form of Durrah (درة) which means a precious pearl. It is from the Arabic language.[i]
The Sahabiyyah you refer to is Durrah Bint Umm Salamah Radhiyallahu ‘anhuma.
Accordingly, the name in Durayrah is suitable.
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best.

من أغراض التصغير أيضا بيان قرب الزمان نحو قبيل الغروب، أو بيان قرب المكان، نحو بعيد المدرسة. وقد يصغر الاسم أحيانا لتمليحه، نحو وليدي في تصغير ولدي، وقد يكون التصغير للتهويل نحو نكيبة؛ للدلالة على عظم النكبة
