Software developer for gambling websites

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I posted this question on a different account where I put the wrong email.

So, I recently got a job in a software development industry as a software developer. However, the job relies on working for betting websites and systems. Betting is not allowed in islam by any means. As a software deevloper, I need a way to earn for a living, yes and a huge problem is that there are very very few open positions out there in my area, so it’s almost impossible to get a normal software development job. I am genuinely concerned by everything as all of it is haram and I am not happily taking any money from it, but otherwise I don’t know if there’s a way for me to earn for a living. What I had an idea about was to stay working here for a while and then quit once I had enough experience to enter a different development company that doesn’t deal with anything gambling related, but I feel that’s very far away. I am without ideas and I am hoping to seek for advice here.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salaam ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Your question is not clear. What do you mean by “the job relies on working for betting websites and systems”? Are you directly employed by the betting company or are you employed by a software consulting industry? Explain clearly in detail.
