As salam e lay kum mufti sahib
I need some guidance. I have led a sinful life in the past but now I am mashallah alhamduliallah leading a better one. My question is should I continue with reading durood ibrahimi and istagfar or should I go on to memorize the Quran? What is more rewarding and more benefical for me on the day of resseruction? I cannot do both because of lack of time? Please advise me what is more beneficial?
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
We do not know what you mean by leading a better life. You enquire about reading Durood Ibrāhimī and Istigfār. You say you do not have time for both. Do you read all your Farḍh Salāh? Do you abstain from sins? Do you read Qur’ān?
It is virtuous to read Durood Ibrāhimi and make Istigfār, however one should realise the need of the time and act accordingly. Each aspect of Ibādah has its importance and excellence in its normal time and situation. The demands of the times should be kept in mind and fulfilled in all situations.
Thus we advise you to take bay’at at the hands of a spiritual (Allāh Ta’ālā conscious) mentor who will guide you accordingly based on your current situation and responsibilities.
The discourses on Qaseeda Burda of my honourable teacher, Mufti Ebrahim Desai hafizahulla, is very useful for spiritual upliftment. You may purchase a hard copy or access the recordings from the following link: http://daruliftaa.net/qaseeda-burda/
