Can I have chin and lower jaw treatments ?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

In 2012 I had braces for protruding upper jaw and crooked teeth. The dentist took all the money and left for America leaving me in middle of treatment. When he came back after many months, he said the treatment is done and you can leave. I was very depressed but didn’t protest due to shyness and unsupportive parents. That dentist has left my teeth severely disfigured, much worse than before. Because of this, my lower jaw and chin haven’t grown and my chin is very small and pushed very much back. Half side of my face is also paralyzed in a sense that when I smile or talk only left side of facial muscles move, right side muscles have stopped working. Also when I smile or talk, left side lips and jaw moves up and right side doesn’t move an inch. Bad braces have also caused hollow cheeks. All of this is distressing me psychologically on daily basis. My question is that can I have braces treatment from another good doctor now to fix this issue and at same time have chin and lower jaw treatment to atleast bring it to n normal place . And can I practice some facial excerises to make hollow cheeks and paralyzed left side muscles better. Thank you

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

We are sad to note the conduct of the dentist to you. You may consider consulting a lawyer and seek legal recourse against the dentist.

It is permissible for you to undergo braces treatment and facial therapy to normalise the function of your facial muscles and jaw.[1][2][3][4][5]
