What do I do? I need to trim my beard to get this sales job.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Asallamalikum , I am writing this in reference to the beard. 3 months back I had been for 40days Jamaat. Where I heard a lot about the Sunnah i.e beard. As once should let it grow. The point is I am in Automotive Sales and was associated with Mercedes Benz at that time. Now I am looking out for a job , I was selected in some other brand and all went well but when the callled me for finalisation it was like we have a condition that you got to trim your beard. I was not comfortable about and rejected the job. Allah knows what is best for me. Now the thing is in sales the requirement is not having a beard. I haven’t grown it one fist as it’s still growing. I am broke , ran out of cash and i need to join somewhere in sales. As I am not familiar with other alternatives. I have a wig and 1 and half year old kid and getting a job has become a huge task. Now suggest what to do keep it growing . As the nature of job requires it to be short. Please looking forward to hear from the team soon. Kindly reply for the same. Jazak Allah Khair

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Respected brother in Islam.

We take note of the contents of your email.

Allah Ta’āla has ordered us to follow the Sunnah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). Our success lies in following the Sunnah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). To grow the beard at least a fist length is wajib.[1] It is commendable that you did not take a job as it required you to compromise on a great Sunnah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam).

Allah Ta’āla is Ar-Razzaaq, the All-Sustainer. He is the One that sustains His creation.[2] Allah Ta’āla mentions in the Quran Kareem:

وَكَأَيِّنْ مِنْ دَابَّةٍ لَا تَحْمِلُ رِزْقَهَا اللَّهُ يَرْزُقُهَا وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ[3]

“How many an animal does not carry its own provision, Allah gives provision to it as well as to you. And He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”(Ankaboot: 60)

Exercise patience and keep on searching for a suitable job that does not require you to compromise on your Islamic principles. We advise you to seek counsel from a suitable person in regards to alternative forms of work.

Turn to Allah Ta’āla to assist you in finding a suitable job with Salah, dhikr and dua.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
