Will I be considered as musafir?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I am from India and will be travelling to Switzerland for a training puropose and will be living in a swiss city for 30 days. I may travel to other cities ( with in 100 km) . Please guide me whether i can pray Jam’ and Qasar during the entire Journey? If not how many days.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa-ramatullahi wa-barakatuh.

In principle, if you will be staying at one place for 15 nights or more, you will be a muqeem in that place. You will perform full salaah in that place.

If you travel 78 kms or more from your place of residence (Iqamat), you will be a  musaafir in that journey until you return to your place of residence (Iqaamat). If you will not be staying at any place for 15 days or more, you will be a musafir at that place. In that instance, you will make qasr and perform two rakaats salaah in Zohar, Asr and Isha.[1]

According to the Hanafi school of thought (Madhab), you cannot make Jama (combine two salaah in one time). Every salaah must be performed in its appropriate time. However, a musaafir may adjust the time of salaah and delay it at a later time within that specific salaah time. For example, if Zohar salaah commences at 1 pm and ends at 4pm. You may delay your salaah until before 4pm.[2]

And Allah Ta`ala Knows Best.
