Zakat on inheritance for trade

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

My brother and I inherited our parents house after their death.

We plan to sell it as soon as we get a suitable offer for it. It may take some years due to formalities . It is unoccupied as it cannot be rented out due to high cost of repairs.

do we have to pay zakat on this every year as the value is high and I am not having enough liquid cash to give zakat on the 2.5% of the value of the house or should I pay zakat after I sell and receive cash for the house.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

There is no zakat on the inherited house.[1]
