Can we give Azaan on a loud speaker ?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Is it allowed to give AZAAn on loud Speaker, even it was not invented during life of Mohammad ( PBUH) and  during his (PBUH)  Khalifae? Though it is among fatal sins to add or subtract anything in Islam.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The purpose of Azaan is to call people for Salah. This is clearly expressed in the following words of the Azaan:

) ( حي على الصلوة “Come to Salah”

( حي على الفلاح )“Come to Success”

The objective of Azaan can be fulfilled by conveying the Azaan as far as possible.

Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam told Hazrat Abdullah bin[i] Zaid Radiallahu Anhu to teach the words of Azaan to Bilal Radiallahu Anhu as he had loud voice.

His voice was more conducive to the objective of Azaan as it was far reaching. The Fuqahaa have stated that when one calls out the Azaan he should turn to the right and left during حي على الصلوة, حي على الفلاح, to enable his voice to reach to the right and left[ii].

It is clear from the above that the Azaan should reach as far as possible. The loudspeaker fulfills this purpose and the use of loudspeaker for Azaan is not an act of Bidah[iii].

The use of the loudspeaker is not regarded as compulsory in Deen.
