Asslamoalakum Mufti Sahib,
I live in United States and my question is regarding how to properly take care of papers that have sacred words and names written on them. Example would be like I have lots of papers at home that have Allah written on them and also names like Muhammad and name of Sahaba etc. This EXCLUDES any Quranic text or Islamic literature.
Can we take care of them by putting them in recycle bins (I have this available on work) of companies like Iron Mountain that probably shred them and reuse the paper but I am not sure what exactly they do.
In addition to above, I live in a small town house and do not have a big property where I can bury or burn them on regular basis since mail keeps coming on regular basis.
In short, I am trying to know how to take care of papers that have sacred text or names written on them when I am living in Unites States.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
There are a few methods of disposing papers which contain the name of Allah, His Messengers, or the Angels.
1) Shred or cross out the names and burn the remains.
2) Deposit the papers (as is) into flowing water.
3) Bury the papers after wrapping them up in a clean piece of cloth.[1]
If none of these methods are feasible, you may recycle the papers in a respectable manner.[2]
We advise crossing the names out with ink or white-out before recycling.

)]الكتب التي لا ينتفع بها يمحى عنها اسم الله وملائكته ورسله ويحرق الباقي ولا بأس بأن تلقى في ماء جار كما هي أو تدفن وهو أحسن كما في الأنبياء. [(
(قوله الكتب إلخ) هذه المسائل من هنا إلى النظم كلها مأخوذة من المجتبى كما يأتي العزو إليه (قوله كما في الأنبياء) كذا في غالب النسخ وفي بعضها كما في الأشباه لكن عبارة المجتبى والدفن أحسن كما في الأنبياء والأولياء إذا ماتوا، وكذا جميع الكتب إذا بليت وخرجت عن الانتفاع بها اهـ. يعني أن الدفن ليس فيه إخلال بالتعظيم، لأن أفضل الناس يدفنون. وفي الذخيرة: المصحف إذا صار خلقا وتعذر القراءة منه لا يحرق بالنار إليه أشار محمد وبه نأخذ، ولا يكره دفنه، وينبغي أن يلف بخرقة طاهرة، ويلحد له لأنه لو شق ودفن يحتاج إلى إهالة التراب عليه، وفي ذلك نوع تحقير إلا إذا جعل فوقه سقف وإن شاء غسله بالماء أو وضعه في موضع طاهر لا تصل إليه يد محدث ولا غبار، ولا قذر تعظيما لكلام الله عز وجل اهـ.

وفي ” جامع شمس الأئمة “: الرسائل والآثار والكتب التي لا منفعة فيها يمحى عنها اسم الله وملائكته ورسله، ويحرق بالنار فلو ألقاها في الماء الجاري أو دفنها لا بأس به.
والدفن أحسن كما في الأنبياء والأولياء إذا ماتوا، وكذا جميع الكتب إذا بليت وخرجت عن الانتفاع.
