Does a wet dream invalidate the fast?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Assalamulaykum W.W. If a man thinks of something evil or fantasised before he sleeps, then has a wet dream while sleeping. Will this nullify his fast? Jazakumullah, Waalaykum Salaam WW.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Fantasizing is prohibited. One should make taubah and Istighfaar for doing so.

The purpose of fasting is to discipline the nafs by containing the nafs from fulfilling its desires.

When one fantasises, he follows his nafs and feeds it with its desires. That is against the spirit of fasting. The purpose and objective of fasting is lost through fantasizing.

However, if one fantasizes before going to sleep and thereafter has a wet dream, that does not invalidate the fast. [1]
