Rewards for donating to the people of Gaza

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Dear Brother,

Almighty Allah encourages us to give sadaqah to the poor and needy. There are many people suffering around the world including the people of Gaza.

To assist the poor and needy is an act of great reward. Consider the following:

1. مَثَلُ الَّذِينَ يُنْفِقُونَ أَمْوَالَهُمْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ حَبَّةٍ أَنْبَتَتْ سَبْعَ سَنَابِلَ فِي كُلِّ سُنْبُلَةٍ مِائَةُ حَبَّةٍ وَاللَّهُ يُضَاعِفُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَاللَّهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ  

Translation: “The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing”. Surah Al-Baqarah [261]

2. {إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَتْلُونَ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَأَنْفَقُوا مِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ سِرًّا وَعَلَانِيَةً يَرْجُونَ تِجَارَةً لَنْ تَبُورَ} [فاطر: 29]

Translation: Indeed, those who recite the Book of Allah and establish prayer and spend [in His cause] out of what We have provided them, secretly and publicly, [can] expect a profit that will never perish. Surah Fatir [29]

3. عن أبي هريرة، أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: ” من أنفق زوجين في سبيل الله نودي في الجنة: يا عبد الله، هذا خير، فمن كان من أهل الصلاة، دعي من باب الصلاة، ومن كان من أهل الجهاد، دعي من باب الجهاد، ومن كان من أهل الصدقة، دعي من باب الصدقة، ومن كان من أهل الصيام، دعي من باب الريان ” قال أبو بكر الصديق: يا رسول الله، ما على أحد يدعى من تلك الأبواب من ضرورة، فهل يدعى أحد من تلك الأبواب كلها؟ قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: نعم، وأرجو أن تكون منهم

Translation: Abu Hurairah Radhyallahu Anhu reported that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alihi Wasallma said, “He who spends a pair in the way of Allah will be called from the gates of Jannah: ‘O slave of Allah! This gate is better for you’ and one who is constant in Salat (prayer), will be called from the Gate of Salat; and whoever is eager in fighting in the Cause of Allah, will be called from the Gate of Jihad; and who is regular in observing Saum will be called from Ar-Raiyan Gate. The one who is generous in charity will be called from the Gate of Charity”. Abu Bakr Radhyallahu Anhu said: “O Rasulullah! May my mother and father be sacrificed for you! Those who are called from these gates will stand in need of nothing. Will anybody be called from all of those gates?” He replied, “Yes, and I hope that you will be one of them”. Sahih Muslim [1027]

There are specific virtues for assisting widows. See the following two Ahadeeth:

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: “السَّاعِي عَلَى الأَرْمَلَةِ وَالمِسْكِينِ، كَالْمُجَاهِدِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ، أَوِ القَائِمِ اللَّيْلَ الصَّائِمِ النَّهَارَ”

Translation: Abu Hurairah Radhyallahu Anhu narrated that Nabi Sallallahu alihi Wasallam said “The one who looks after a widow or a poor person is like a Mujahid (warrior) who fights for Allah’s Cause, or like him who performs prayers all the night and fasts all day”. Sahih Bukhari [5353]

It is reported in a lengthy hadith narrated by Jabir Radhyallahu Anhu that Nabi Sallallahu Alihi Wasallam said:

وَمَنْ كَفَلَ يَتِيمًا أَوْ أَرْمَلَةً أَظَلَّهُ اللَّهُ فِي ظِلِّهِ وَأَدْخَلَهُ جَنَّتَهُ

Translation: “The one who looks after an orphan or a widow, Allah Taa’la will place him under the shade (of his throne) and will enter him in Jannah”. Mu’jamut Tabarani [9292]  

One may contribute any amount according to one’s financial situation. The hadith is clear that Allah Taa’la will reward the person who assisted a widow with Jannah.

There is no specific mention of meeting the martyr of the widow at the gates of Jannah. However, the martyr and the sponsor will be in Jannah. Inshallah.

9292-حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ مَرْثَدٍ، نَا الْمُعَافَى بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، نَا مُوسَى بْنُ أَعْيَنَ، عَنِ الْخَلِيلِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَنْ حَفَرَ قَبْرًا بَنَى اللَّهُ لَهُ بَيْتًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ، وَمَنْ غَسَّلَ مَيِّتًا خَرَجَ مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَيَوْمِ وَلَدَتْهُ أُمُّهُ، وَمَنْ كَفَّنَ مَيِّتًا كَسَاهُ اللَّهُ أَثْوَابًا مِنْ حُلَلِ الْجَنَّةِ، وَمَنْ عَزَّى حَزِينًا أَلْبَسَهُ اللَّهُ التَّقْوَى وَصَلَّى عَلَى رُوحِهِ فِي الْأَرْوَاحِ، وَمَن عَزَّى مُصَابًا كَسَاهُ اللَّهُ حُلَّتَيْنِ مِنْ حُلَلِ الْجَنَّةِ لَا يَقُومُ لَهُمَا الدُّنْيَا، وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ جَنَازَةً حَتَّى يُقْضَى دَفْنُهَا كُتِبَ لَهُ ثَلَاثَةُ قَرَارِيطَ، الْقِيرَاطُ مِنْهَا أَعْظَمُ مِنْ جَبَلِ أُحُدٍ، وَمَنْ كَفَلَ يَتِيمًا أَوْ أَرْمَلَةً أَظَلَّهُ اللَّهُ فِي ظِلِّهِ وَأَدْخَلَهُ جَنَّتَهُ”

لَمْ يَرْوِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَنِ الْخَلِيلِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ إِلَّا مُوسَى بْنُ أَعْيَنَ، وَلَا يُرْوَى عَنْ جَابِرٍ إِلَّا بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ. وَلَمْ يُنْسَبْ لَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الَّذِي رَوَى هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ
