Procedure of Istibrā.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I want to remain pure from urine drops after istinja. Some droplets do come out after I get up from the sitting position. Can I use a tissue paper and wait for the remaining small drops to come? Please advice.

You state that that some droplets of urine discharged from your private part after getting up from the sitting position.

At the outset, it is important to note that after urinating, one must ensure that there are no remaining drops of urine left in the urethra. There are different methods of relieving oneself from this problem. This process is called Istibra.

The process of Istibra can be done in any of the follwoing:[i]

1.      Istibra can be done by coughing. The moving of the body will force out the remaining drops.

2.      Walking a few steps while placing toilet paper in your undergarment that will serve to absorb the urine drops, the toilet paper should be disposed before performing Wudu.

3.      Or gently place one’s fingers on the area just below the scrotum and press that area while moving one’s hand upwards, by which all remaining urine drops leave the body.

Furthermore, one should only commence performing Wudu after feeling assured that no more drops of urine will come out.
